How to get and start using Smart-ID for authentication and document signing?
Smart-ID is an application that can be used for authentication and document signing in various e-services. To use Smart-ID, you will need a smart device and an internet connection. You can download the Smart-ID app here.
To use Smart-ID, usually, you will be asked to enter your personal code. After entering the personal code and confirming the action, you will see a control/verification code appearing on your device screen. After a moment, you will see the same code appearing on your smart device screen in the Smart-ID app (if the app did not open automatically, open it manually), make sure these codes match, and click "Confirm". If you are using Smart-ID for authentication, you will be asked to enter your PIN1 code, and if you are using Smart-ID for signing, you will be asked to enter the PIN2 code. The action will be completed after entering the code.
To be able to sign documents with a qualified e-signature using Smart-ID, please follow the steps below:
1. Make sure that your Smart-ID app version is not older than 14.7. To check the version, open the app on your device, click "Menu" and then "Application info". Update the app if the version is outdated.
NOTE: Smart-ID Basic account can only be used in bank systems. To sign documents, you will need to upgrade your Smart-ID account.

Open the Smart-ID app on your device, click "Menu" and "Delete account". Confirm your action by clicking "Delete account".
3. Using biometric identification, you can register a Smart-ID easily and without leaving your home. You will need an ID-card, passport, or residence permit in Latvia or Lithuania, a passport if you are Estonian, and NFC compatible phone. For detailed instructions, please see here.
4. If you can't register a Smart-ID account using the biometric identification, you can also do it using Mobile-ID or ID card. If you do not have any of these eIDs, you can visit "Swedbank", "SEB" or "Luminor" bank branch to register your Smart-ID account.
