Definitions: e-signature, e-seal, timestamp

Electronic signature - to put it simply, it is an electronic version of your signature. It means data in electronic form, which is logically associated with other data in electronic form and is being used by a signatory to sign. In the Dokobit portal, we support qualified and advanced electronic signatures based on a qualified certificate. A qualified electronic signature has the equivalent legal effect of a handwritten signature and the advanced electronic signature, based on a qualified certificate can also be provided as evidence in legal proceedings. 

Electronic seal - in other words, it is an electronic version of a company seal. An electronic seal can be associated only with a legal person. Electronic seals are being used to ensure the origin and integrity of data, for example, to ensure that the document belongs to or was issued by a particular company. An electronic seal can be acquired in a form of a cryptographic USB token or deployed in a special Hardware Security Modules (a special type of server). For mass document e-Sealing (like invoices, statements, etc.), e-seal certificate shall be issued to HSM. We have partnered with SK ID Solutions and can help you to get a qualified e-seal certificate and host it in our own HSM. In this case, we can provide the ability to use the issued e-seal in the Dokobit portal or via developer-friendly API. 

Electronic timestamp - is proof that the document was signed till that date and time. It means data in electronic form which binds other data in the electronic form to a particular time. It establishes evidence that this data existed at that time. More information about timestamps can be found here.
