How to get and start using MitID for authentication and document signing
MitID is a new electronic ID tool used in Denmark. A collaboration between Danish banks and the Danish public sector, this alliance forms a nationwide solution and provides a secure authentication mechanism for all Danish citizens, residents, and students – as long as you're at least 13 years old and have a valid Danish ID, you will be able to use this service for authentication and signing documents.
Here are three ways you can start using MitID (follow the orange links to receive further information for each option):
- Get MitID by using your NemID account
If you already have a NemID account, choose this option. You will need access to your text messages or e-mail to receive information during the setup of your MitID account. - Get MitID with the help of your passport
If you have a passport and a device with which to download the MitID app, choose this option. The MitID app can read the hidden NFC chip in your passport and confirm your identity. - Get MitID at a Citizen Service Centre
If you don't have a smartphone, choose this option. You will have to book an appointment in person at a Citizen Service Centre and bring valid documentation.
Additional information can be found on the official MitID website here.
